INÜ Researchers Receive Faculty Publication Prize

15. Juli 2026 /

The Uni Stuttgart publication award goes to an INÜ Polar Coding paper.

At the "day of research" at Stuttgart University on July 1, 2026, scientists from all ten faculties were honored for their outstanding publications of the year 2025.

Falculty 5's (Electrical Engineering and Comnputer Science) prize for 2025 is awarded to the Institute of Telecommunications (INÜ) for their publication: Andreas Zunker, Marvin Geiselhart, Lucas Johannsen, Claus Kestel, Stephan ten Brink, Timo Vogt, Norbert Wehn, "Row-Merged Polar Codes: Analysis, Design, and Decoder Implementation," in IEEE Transactions on Communications, vol. 73, no. 1, pp. 39-53, Jan. 2025, doi: 10.1109/TCOMM.2024.3432688.

Research associates Andreas Zunker and Marvin Rübenacke, working with colleagues at INÜ and RPTU Kaiserslautern, developed a new class of "row-merged polar codes" that provides even stronger error protection while using significantly fewer hardware resources.

The paper received substantial attention and sparked interest in applying these new codes to future wireless mobile systems such as 6G mobile telephony.

More information can be found at the University's "research day 2026" webpage here.
