Double-Degree-Master VGU

Starting from the winter semester 2023/24, the University of Stuttgart (USTUTT) will offer a Master's double degree program in cooperation with the Vietnamese-German University (VGU), Vietnam.

During your Master studies, you will spend 2 semesters at the University of stuttgart and 2 semesters at the partner university. Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate from each of the two universities.

Double Degree - M.Sc. Electrical Engineering Uni Stuttgart / Vietnamese-German University in Ho-Chi-Minh Stadt, Vietnam

Starting from winter term 2023/24 the University of Stuttgart (USTUTT) offers a Master’s Double Degree Program in cooperation with the Vietnamese-German-University (VGU) in Ho-Chi-Minh, Vietnam. 

Once you are an M.Sc. EENG admitted student with major „Communication systems“ or „Electromagnetics and Applications“ you are eligible to apply for the Double Degree. Please check the details and procedures here.

The Double Degree Program at a glance:

  • Study duration: 4 Semester
  • Course of study: 2 regular semesters at the University of Stuttgart and 2 semesters at the Vietnamese-German-University (incl. master thesis)
  • Degree: Master degree in "Electrical Engineering" from the University of Stuttgart and Master degree in "Electrical Engineering" major "Communications Technology and Systems" from the VGU
  • Language: English
  • Application: during the first Master semester, deadline 15. January for a stay abroad from the upcoming Winter semester
  • Tuition fees: No tuition fees are paid in Vietnam

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is a public Vietnamese university developed in close partnership with Germany. Every year, up to 10 students will be provided with the opportunity to participate in the Master’s Double Degree Program. The first two semesters should be completed at the University of Stuttgart (60 ECTS). Then, students are eligible to continue their curriculum for the remaining two semesters at the partner university, including the master thesis.

It is essential that both programs are completed in accordance with the respective local regulations (both examination regulations) and procedures.

In the end, the courses, examinations, and master thesis taken at VGU will be fully recognized by the University of Stuttgart and replaced as equivalent to examinations taken in Germany.

After successful completion of both programs, students are awarded the Master’s Degree from VGU and from USTUTT.

University of Stuttgart students interested in participating in the Master’s Double Degree Program have to be enrolled in the MSc. Electrical Engineering within the major “Communication Systems” or “Electromagnetics and Applications”.

Master students should submit the following documents until 15.01 during the first semester of the Master for a stay in Vietnam from the upcoming Winter semester:

  • Application Form
  • CV
  • Motivational Letter (in English): please explain shortly (max. 1 DIN A4 page) why you would like to participate in the Master’s Double Degree Program
  • Bachelor’s Degree Certificate (copy)
  • Current transcript of records (Download from C@MPUS)
  • Proof of the English language

Interested students are asked to submit a full set of application documents to the Academic Coordinator and the International officer at the Department – see contact below.

After your documents have been checked there will be a selection interview with Prof. Jan Hesselbarth.

The Admissions Committee will do the selection of maximum 10 students. Important criteria are academic level and motivation.

The list of the nominated students will be sent to the VGU and the VGU.

Courses at VGU start in the following winter term (Semester start around mid-September). Until then, students have to successfully complete 60 ECTS credits in Stuttgart otherwise the enrollment at the VGU is not possible.

It is recommended to find out about the various options at an early stage:

  • The Baden-Württemberg stipendium:

The Baden-Wuerttemberg-Stipendium for students is a program of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Stiftung. It is a monthly partial scholarship of EUR 700 for bachelor and master students (usually 8 x EUR 700 for a two-semester stay).

Application deadline: March 15 for a stay abroad from September to July.

  • PROMOS scholarship:

As part of the DAAD mobility program “PROMOS”, the International Office grants scholarships for a stay abroad.

Application deadline: Start of stay between July 1 and December 31: June 1 of the same year

The maximum funding period is of three months (EUR 350/month). Students also receive a mobility allowance.

It is not possible to cumulate BW-Stipendium and PROMOS for the same stay!

  • Annual scholarship from the DAAD:

The scholarship is valid for the period of  the stay at the partner university (one academic year).
