Recognition of academic achievements during exchange semesters

Through the recognition of academic achievements gained abroad, the department supports you in your plans to complete part of your studies at a foreign university.

A compulsory module or an elective module of a study program in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (EI) at the University of Stuttgart can generally only be replaced by a module taken, for example, as part of a study program abroad, if:

  • Firstly, the external module has at least the same number of credits (ECTS) as the compulsory or elective module to be replaced in the course of study in the Department of EI and.
  • Secondly, the external module has at least 70% correspondence in content with the module to be replaced in the degree program in the EI department.

As a rule, an elective module of a degree program in the EI department can be replaced by an external module only if

  • Firstly, the module already completed has at least the same number of credits (ECTS) as the elective module to be replaced in the course of study in the EI department, and
  • Secondly, in the opinion of the chairperson of the examination board, the external module is suitable for the course of study in the EI department.

If you want to know before your Erasmus stay whether the modules you want to complete during your stay will later be recognized by us in your Bachelor's/Master's degree program, then you must prove to us for each module you want to have recognized that:
1) ... they are modules of a Bachelor's/Master's degree program,
2) ... the modules have at least 6 (or 3) ECTS-credits,

and, if you want to have the external module recognized as one of the two extracurricular electives,
3) ...the content of the modules fits to the study program. This usually results from the module name. Note: This is only possible in max. two cases of 6 credits each.

If, on the other hand, you want to have the external module recognized instead of a certain module (elective module or compulsory elective module) from your degree program, then you must prove that:
3) ...the content of the external module corresponds at least to 70% with the module (please name exactly, incl. module number) of your study program with us.

This evidence can be provided, for example, by module descriptions from which these three points can be seen. In particular, in the case of recognition as a module of your degree program with us, the description of the content of the external module must be so detailed that the assessment of the at least 70% content match can be made by the chairperson of the examination board.

If you send us this evidence before the Erasmus stay, then our chairperson of the examination board can clarify the recognizability in advance (if necessary with the support of a professor which is closer to the subject). In the positive case, you can enter the recognizable modules in the Learning Agreement (LA) in "Table B".
All other modules that you want to complete during your stay abroad must be entered in "Table A" of the LA. Of course, you can also apply for recognition of the completed modules to the chair of the examination board only after you have completed your Erasmus stay - without any guarantee of recognition, but the above-mentioned standards apply equally.

The chairperson of the examination board is responsible for the recognition of academic achievements gained abroad. Please refer to the relevant information provided by the examination office.
