Deepening cooperation with the Vietnamese-German University (VGU)

October 1, 2024 / ISP-Faculty 5

During the visit of the Vice President of the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) at the end of September, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology signed a MoU to foster cooperation with the VGU.

On September 26, 2024, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology welcomed the Vice President of the Vietnamese-German University (VGU), Dr. Hà Thúc Viên.

Dr. Viên visited the University of Stuttgart to discuss common interests and the deepening of the existing cooperation.

The long-standing collaboration between the Department of EI and VGU has resulted in a joint double Master's program, which was launched at the beginning of 2023 as part of the English-conducted Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering (under the direction of Prof. Dr. Jan Hesselbarth, Director of the Institute of High Frequency Technology). Students from Stuttgart specializing in “Communication Systems” or “Electromagnetics and Applications” can go to Ho Chi Minh City for a year to study at VGU and vice versa and thus obtain a Master's degree from both universities. The first Vietnamese students are expected to arrive in Stuttgart in winter semester 25/26.

Dr. Viên was welcomed by the outgoing Vice-Rector for Diversity and International Affairs - Prof. Dr. Silke Wieprecht - , the new Dean of Faculty 5 - Prof. Dr. Peter Birke - and other Faculty 5 representatives, Prof. Jan Hesselbarth, Prof. Norbert Frühauf and Dr. Michael Oehme. Furthermore, the Department of International Affairs and the International Service Point of Faculty 5 were represented.

At the end of the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to pave the way to further consolidate and expand the successful cooperation.
