The work of our young academics has received several awards in recent weeks. Islem Bouzenia represented our deartment at IEEE/ACM Automated Software Engineering conference (ASE 2022) in Michigan (USA) with the Poster Session „Detecting Inconsistencies in If-Condition-Raise Statements“–and won the ACM Student Research Competition at ASE'22. With the IICR-Finder, Bouzenia had presented an approach based on Deep Learning that detects inconsistent "If-Condition-Raise" statements. The solution was able to reveal 30 previously unknown errors in open source projects; ten of these were reported, and eight were confirmed by the respective developers.
Bo Xiong of the Analytic Computing research group was recognized with the Best Student Research Paper of the International Semantic Web Conference at the International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC2022) (Hangzhou, China). The paper, titled "Faithful Embeddings for EL++ Knowledge Bases" was written under the direction of Professor Streffen Staab and in collaboration with Motjaba Nayyeri, also of the Analytic Computing department, Trung-Kien Tran of the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence, and Nico Potyka of London Imperial College. This work is also part of the KnowGraphs project; whose main goal is to scale knowledge graphs so that they are accessible to a wide range of users in different domains, including companies of all sizes and even end users.
