Successful doctoral thesis “Power Semiconductor Loss Characterization and Advanced Thermal Management for High Power Density AC/DC Battery Chargers”

The entire ILH team congratulates Dr.-Ing. Julian Weimer on the successful defense of his dissertation “Power Semiconductor Loss Characterization and Advanced Thermal Management for High Power Density AC/DC Battery Chargers”.

In his thesis, Julian deals with the detailed characterization of switching losses in wide-bandgap semiconductors as well as innovative approaches to thermal management in high power density AC/DC battery chargers. The aim of the dissertation is to significantly increase the efficiency and reliability of modern charging systems through a better understanding of loss mechanisms and advanced cooling concepts. Julian worked as a research assistant at the ILH for almost 6 years, during which time he conducted intensive research on the characterization of wide-bandgap semiconductors and the development of thermal management solutions for power electronic systems.
